Breakaway Program

The BreakAway Program, formerly known as the Life After Hockey Program, is supported and funded by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA). The BreakAway Program is administered by the NHL Alumni Association, and we work in conjunction with the Ted Rogers School of Management in the development of customized programs, courses and career services for current and former NHL players.

The Ted Rogers School of Management is Canada’s largest undergraduate management school and offers a diverse range of business courses that can be completed on a flexible schedule, both in-class and online. With a strong career-focus and an accessible Toronto location, the school is the perfect educational partner for the BreakAway Program.

If you have played at least one game in the NHL and are a registered member of the NHL Alumni or NHL Players’ Association you can utilize BreakAway Program services. You will join hundreds of current and former players who have already participated in the BreakAway Program and gain valuable skills for life after hockey.

These services have been developed over a period of five years with direct contributions from members of the NHL Alumni, the NHL, the NHL Players' Association and the player/ clients who have participated in the program as well as feedback from Breakaway Committee members: Pat Flatley, Mark Napier, Brian O’Neill and Dr. Brian Shaw.
